How Security Surveillance Aid Court Cases
Home Security Systems have become a critical tool, not only from preventing crime from occuring, but also ensuring the justice system has crucial evidence for court rooms. With a rise in crime in Houston, and other major cities, there are a few notable court cases where home surveillance played a pivotal role in convicting thieves, or even influencing a trial's outcome. In this blog, we will discuss some examples from cases where evidence from security systems helped conclude court cases. At Maverick Security, we are here to help protect you and your assets. In 2020, home surveillance footage captured a tragic killing of Ahmaud Arbery in the state of Georgia. This man was shot while jogging in a neighborhood, where the incident was captured from a security camera. This individual who was attacked, was seen entering a home under construction and later seen leaving during a confrontation between him and attackers.
The attackers claimed the incident was in self-defense, as they felt threatened from the individuals presence. However, after further review of video footage surrounding the incident, it was clear he posed no threat to the assailants attacking him. In the video he was seen just jogging in the neighborhood, not posing a threat or interacting with anyone, but shortly after you can see the criminals chase him down to kill him. The video proved the case that Ahmaud was innocent, so the surveillance allowed for justice to be properly served to the convicts.
In 2015, the murder of Dr. Teresa Sievers, a well known physician in Florida, was found dead in her home. The investigation led to the arrest of two men, one of whom was her own husband. However, what allowed this case to be closed was a neighbor's home security system. A video captured the suspects driving to and from the residence on the day of the murder, placing them at the scene of the crime. This allowed a connecting timeline to form leading to their convictions.
Not only does security systems deter criminal activity from occurring, but it also ensures that when a crime does occur, there is an even higher likelihood that justice will be served.
